Flit
Privacy
Last updated: 15 October 2026
This policy explains what Flit, the RSS reader by Heterochromia Studio, does with your data. In short: Flit has no accounts, no ads and no tracking. What you read stays on your device.
What stays on your device
Your sources, articles, reading state (Inbox, Later, Read, Saved), folders and settings are stored only on your iPhone or iPad, in Flit’s own storage shared with its widgets and its Share extension. We don’t have a server that receives them, and we can’t see them.
What Flit connects to
To show you what you follow, Flit connects directly from your device to:
The websites, podcasts and YouTube channels you follow, to download their feeds, articles and pictures.
DuckDuckGo’s icon service, to show the small icon of each website.
Apple’s public podcast directory (iTunes Search API), when you add a podcast or open an episode in Apple Podcasts.
Public preview services of X, TikTok and Feedly, when you share a link to Flit, to show its title and picture.
These requests contain only what’s needed to fetch that content, such as the address of a feed. Each service has its own privacy policy.
Siri AI summaries
Summaries are made by Apple’s on-device language model. The article never leaves your device to be summarized.
Anonymous usage statistics
Flit sends anonymous usage signals to TelemetryDeck, so we can understand which features and settings people use and improve the app. These signals contain things like which settings are chosen, which share styles are used or whether a summary worked. They never contain the articles you read, your sources, your name or your email. The device is identified only by a random identifier created by Flit and hashed before sending; TelemetryDeck doesn’t store IP addresses.
YouTube and Google sign-in
Optional. You can connect your Google account in Settings › YouTube, to follow the channels you’re subscribed to on YouTube.
What Flit accesses: the list of your YouTube subscriptions (read-only, through the YouTube Data API), and your Google account’s name, email address and profile picture.
How it’s used: the subscriptions are used only to add those channels to Flit and keep them in step once a day. Your name, email and picture are used only to show which account is connected, in Settings.
Where it stays: everything stays on your device. Flit has no servers, and we, the developer, never receive your Google user data.
How to stop: tap Disconnect in Settings › YouTube. Flit revokes its access with Google, deletes the sign-in token and your account details from the device, and removes the channels your subscriptions brought in. You can also remove Flit’s access at any time from your Google Account permissions.
Flit’s use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Flit uses YouTube API Services. By connecting your account you also agree to the YouTube Terms of Service, and Google’s handling of your data is described in the Google Privacy Policy.
Sharing, transfer and disclosure of Google user data
Flit does not share, transfer, sell or disclose Google user data to anyone. Your subscriptions, name, email address and profile picture are read by the app on your device, directly from Google, and stay there. They are not sent to us, to TelemetryDeck (the anonymous usage statistics above never include them), to advertisers, or to any other third party, and they are not used to train AI models. Because we never receive or store this data, we have none to hand over to anyone.
How Google user data is protected
On the device, the sign-in token is stored in the iOS Keychain, which encrypts it and makes it available only to Flit on your device; your subscriptions and account details are kept in Flit’s own storage, which iOS encrypts (Data Protection). In transit, Flit talks to Google only over encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS). Sign-in uses Google’s OAuth 2.0 with PKCE: your password is entered on Google’s own page and never seen by Flit, and no shared secret is stored in the app. Flit asks only for read-only access to your YouTube subscriptions plus your basic profile, and never writes to your account. Disconnecting, or deleting the app, removes the token and the data from your device; revoking access in your Google Account stops Flit from reading anything further.
Tips
Tips are in-app purchases handled entirely by Apple. We don’t receive your payment details.
Children
Flit isn’t directed at children under 13 and doesn’t knowingly collect data from them.
